Paying by card in a taxi

Bargeldloses Bezahlen

Many taxi companies have already integrated card terminals. It's clear that passengers also want the option to pay by Girocard (formerly EC card) and credit card in taxis. At least three common cards must be accepted, with debit cards and credit cards being among the most commonly used. Additionally, a taxi may not transport passengers if the card payment terminal is not functioning at the start of the journey. Each driver must verify the identity of the cardholder with an ID card or passport.

Paying by Girocard (formerly EC card) and credit card in taxis has its advantages:

  • Protection against counterfeit money: Paying by card reduces the risk of receiving counterfeit money as a cab driver.
  • Better customer service: If you offer your customers card payment in the cab, you can process payments faster and save yourself a trip to the nearest ATM.
  • Expand your customer base: Reach a larger customer base by making giro (formerly EC) and credit card payments available. Tourists in particular are using these more and more frequently on their travels.

What you should look out for in your card terminal

It is important for you as a driver to choose the optimal card reader device. Pay attention to the type of connection: If you don't have DSL or Wi-Fi access in your taxi, you can also use a card terminal with GPRS.
